Health and Life skills Committee
Students and staff are sensitised on health and life skills issues through workshops, seminars and lectures. This is done in conjunction various stakeholders that include NAC, SAYWHAT, Hospitals, ZNFPC, PSI just to mention a few. Students also have the opportunity to be peer educators and first aiders. Through Health and life skills, students have participated in local, national and international competitions and activities in South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and German just to mention a few
Clinic
Bulawayo Polytechnic has a functional and vibrant clinic which offers the following services: Consultations, Family Planning, HIV testing, Basic first aid, Counselling. Nurses are available on Mondays to Friday from 0830 to 1600 and are also available also on call after hours. We have a visiting doctor who comes three (3) times a week and sees clients per booking by the nurses or as per client’s request.
Integrated Extended Skills Outreach Programme (IESOP)
Bulawayo Polytechnic is offering training to the Plumtree and Binga community through Integrated Extended Skills Outreach Program. The training will empower the people with relevant entrepreneurial skills and knowledge for survival. There are no academic entry requirements and courses can be taught in any language. The courses on offer are as follows: Construction Engineering- carpentry & joinery, brick and block laying, brick moulding, wall & floor tiling, painting & decoration and plumbing. Electrical engineering offers full house installation. Applied Science offers piggery, goat and poultry production. Trade testing will be offered were relevant.
Tertiary Institutions of the Arts Festival (TIFAZ)
All institutions in Higher and Tertiary Education (Teachers colleges, Polytechnics and Universities) compete through the following Arts discipline: Visual Arts (Fine arts, fashion show, clothing and textile designs), Performing Arts (Choral, drama, poetry, African Folk), Food & Culinary Arts and Cosmetology. Our students have the opportunity to partake in the disciplines above. In the previous years Bulawayo Polytechnic has been overall winners in visual arts, performing arts (choral) and Food and culinary arts.
Sports
Students can partake in a variety of sporting disciplines which include athletics, basketball, chess, cricket, darts, handball, karate, netball, Pool, Rugby, Table Tennis, and volleyball. The institution participates in Bulawayo Tertiary Institutions Sports Association (BTISA), Tertiary Education Sports Association of Zimbabwe (TESAZ) and Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) and has won several trophies and medals.
Under TESAZ we won gold medal in Paralympics, table tennis – (men) gold, silver table tennis (women), soccer (women) – gold, volleyball (women) silver, tennis (women) gold, tennis (women) silver, chess (men) gold, chess (women) silver, basketball (women) silver, athletics, gold and silver. Four (4) students were selected to represent Zimbabwe in CUCSA games in Malawi.
